CHILDREN’S WORK IN OUR PARISHES
Children are at the heart of Church Family life.
Our vision is that people of all ages learn together what it means to follow God. At present our children’s work is focused at Eton Wick Church though children are welcome at any of the services in any of our churches.
After the regular Sunday School held during the service at Eton Wick the children come back into the church to join in the worship and also both children and adults share together what they have been doing separately.
The children join in the whole of the family service on the 1st Sunday of each month at Eton Wick
Sunday School (for 3 - 16 year olds) meets during the adult service on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sundays during term time.
A group for pre-school children and their mothers - the ‘Little Fishes’ - is held on the Wednesdays of each month except during the holidays.
During the holidays our Sunday services are designed to be accessible to children.
At the start of the summer holidays we hold a three day “RiverReach” holiday club for 5 to 9 year olds which has proved to be very popular. For more information please contact the vicar.
Why do we feel our work with children is so important?
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
[Deuteronomy 6:3-9]
What better reason?! The Israelites, to whom Moses spoke these words of God, were surrounded by those who thought other things to be more worthwhile than Him and they were under pressure to join the crowd, not to be different, to brush God under the carpet. How true is that still for our children? Home and Church are the only places where our children can hear about God, His faithfulness and promises without interference. Our hope is to support the work that parents do at home.
We all need to learn about God because …
He is the most important person to know
this is the most important relationship to have
So, for our children ...
We teach about God through the person of Jesus and His interaction with mankind.
We learn about what it means to be a Christian in the world
We recognise God’s gifts and the roles we all need to play in the church family
How do we do this?
We base our teaching on Bible stories and passages
Our activities to reinforce the message include colouring, drama, singing, quizzes, sticking, etc.
We make full use of prayer
We have plenty of involvement in adult worship
